This trailer was originally built as one of three 7 windows single deck single saloon horse trams by Moor and Sons, Christchurch, in 1882 for the Canterbury Tramway Company. (These three trams were numbers 17 - 19). The top deck was added later.

In 1905, the tram was one of those transferred to the Christchurch Tramway Board, renumbered 91, and had air brakes fitted to allow it to be used as an electric tram trailer.

In later years of operation, the double decker trams were seldom used - only being brought out on special occasions when passanger numbers were expected to be high - such as Raceway Specials, Rugby matches and such like.
