One of 12 such trailers built by or for the Christchurch Tramway Company post 1893. Originally had a straight staircase.
in 1905, the tram was transferred to the Christchurch Tramway Board, renumbered 74, and had air brakes fitted to allow it to be towed by the electric trams.
On the Ferrymead Tramway, No 74 is normally towed behind the Kitson steam Tram (see photos of the Kitson), or behind the electric trams. It also frequently makes an appearance as a wedding tram trailer when it is towed behind a number 22.
This trailer has also made a number of trips away from the Ferrymead Tramway to the City Tramway for special occasions such as:
- October 2003 where it did three circuits of the City Tramway behind Kitson Number 7, and
- in 2007 when it was towed behind Christchurch 178 to commemorate this cars 100,000th circuit on the City Tramway.
74 has also visited the Christchurch A&P show, wher it was used as a static exhibit. |
